1. ‘Ceramides’ and Skin Health
* Skin Structure
– The skin is composed of the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous fat. The epidermis, the outermost layer, serves to protect against external stimuli, pathogen invasion, regulate body temperature, and maintain moisture and lipid balance.
– The outermost layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, is associated with skin burns, aging, and moisturization.
– Ceramides are lipid components located in the stratum corneum and make up approximately 40% of the skin’s lipid components.

* Ceramides
– Ceramides prevent the loss of moisture from the skin, help maintain skin moisturization, and contribute to the formation of the protective barrier in the stratum corneum, thus assisting in the maintenance of the skin barrier.
– They have effects on atopic dermatitis suppression, skin barrier and moisturization, elasticity, and wrinkle improvement.
