1. What is Bird’s Nest (edible bird’s nest)?

– It is a nest made by small seabirds called “Aerodramus funiphagus,” primarily found in Southeast Asia. The nest is made from their saliva and feathers during their breeding season.

– It has been consumed as a traditional Chinese food since the Ming Dynasty and is particularly known for its benefits to skin health.

– Chinese medicinal books, such as “Bon Cho Gang Mok,” record that bird’s nest “replenishes lost energy” and it has been used for immune support and skincare in ancient royal and noble circles.

– It contains a variety of nutrients, including vitamins, hormones, fatty acids, as well as proteins, carbohydrates, inorganic salts, and amino acids.

2. Key Components and Benefits of Bird’s Nest

   1) Sialic Acid

   – A component in the carbohydrates of edible bird’s nest with pharmacological effects.

   – Sialic acid found in cell membranes is associated with important physiological functions such as preventing influenza infection, strengthening the  immune system, and anti-inflammatory activities.

   2) EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor)

   – An important component for cell differentiation, promoting cell growth, proliferation, and regeneration. A decrease in EGF is associated with     aging.

   3) Effects on Skin Health
