1) Blood Sugar Control (Fats, Protein, Dietary Fiber) - In a study with 15 healthy adults, consuming 60g of raw almonds per day showed a positive effect on satiety and significant improvement in post-meal blood sugar levels. - In a study with 20 participants, including those with type 2 diabetes, consuming 28g of almonds per day resulted in a 30% decrease in post-meal blood sugar levels. 2) LDL Cholesterol Reduction - Reduction in cholesterol and bile acid absorption, increased excretion, and activation of LDL cholesterol receptors contribute to a decrease in LDL cholesterol. Nutrition Reviews, Volume 69, Issue 4, 1 April 2011, Pages 171-185 - In a study with 86 individuals with mild hypercholesterolemia, consuming 20g of almonds per day for 6 weeks resulted in significant reductions in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels. - In a study with 22 healthy adults, consuming 29% of daily intake from almonds for 6 weeks resulted in decreased intake of saturated fat and cholesterol, with significant reductions of 4% in total cholesterol and 6% in LDL cholesterol, and a 6% increase in HDL cholesterol. 4) Anti-inflammatory, Antioxidant (Unsaturated Fatty Acids, Vitamin E) - In a study with 25 healthy adults, those who consumed a high-almond diet showed a reduction in E-selectin and CRP levels compared to those on a low-almond diet. - In a study with 30 smokers (minimum of 5 years), supplementing with 84g and 168g of almond supplements for 4 weeks showed significant improvement in DNA damage, with a reduction in 8-OH-dG and MDA levels, and an increase in SOD and GSH-Px levels. |
