- L. plantarum MG989, L. fermentum MG901, and L. salivarius MG242, isolated from the vagina of Korean women, have been shown to inhibit Gardnerella vaginalis, the causative agent of bacterial vaginosis, and Candida albicans, the cause of candidiasis, according to SCI-level research papers.
- These strains produce lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, bacteriocins, etc., in the gut, showing antimicrobial effects.
